JUNE 1, 2008 Trinity Trails, Fort Worth
Tossing walking destinations back and forth Gail and Madelyn finally settled on River Legacy Park. As they drove down Green Oaks Avenue approaching the entrance to River Legacy they spotted a coyote strolling down the street. Not thrilled by the prospects of walking with wild animals, but wanting to walk they continued into the park. Fanny packs loaded the two walkers left their car and headed off onto the trail. In less than five minutes they spotted a bobcat leaping out of a wooded area and walking down the path ahead of them. A quick about face followed and Gail and Madelyn decided to head out of the park and walk in the North Arlington neighborhoods. Moments later they spotted the previous coyote walking through the entrance of the park. It only took seconds to reconsider their plans and back to the car they headed. Where to walk now? Safe, not too long and no wild animals larger than a squirrel? The Trinity Trials in Fort Worth was the place. Getting a much later start then originally planned, they now walked in the hotter part of the day. The Texas heat and humidity of late spring and summer is a major factor to be considered during training. Water and sports drinks are essential items. Sweaty and exhausted, Gail and Madelyn completed a total walk of 5.87 miles.
